5 ESSENTIAL TIPS AND TRICKS FOR GATE 2023

Here are some tips and tricks by experts to score well for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2023.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is one of the competitive exams conducted by The GATE Committee, faculty members from IISc, and seven other IITs on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, National Coordinating Board, and Department of Education. The organising institute for the upcoming GATE exam is IIT Kanpur.

The exam is scheduled to take place on February 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th, 2023. Following the government's announcement stating that 10-lakh people will be given jobs in the federal government in the next 18 months, the ongoing discourse regarding the examination has become more engaging.

Here are some expert suggested tips and tactics to help aspirants improve their preparation to ace the GATE 2023 examination:

1. UNDERSTANDING THE EXAM PATTERN AND SYLLABUS:

Before beginning preparation for the exam, it is crucial for aspirants to understand the syllabus and exam pattern. As the exam pattern is not the same for all disciplines, it is crucial for aspirants to have an in-depth understanding of the pattern.

Aspirants should also note that the exam pattern changes for each paper, depending on the marks division and segments; only the General Aptitude segment remains common for all papers and has 15% marks weightage. Further, aspirants need to be well versed with four years of Engineering syllabus to ace the exam.

2. MAKE SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS:

To manage the voluminous syllabus, aspirants must make short-term (daily) as well as long-term (fortnightly and monthly) plans. Juggling between college classes and coaching sessions can be tough.

Hence, the best way to manage this is to set realistic daily and monthly goals. Also, some topics will demand extra hours for a thorough understanding. Therefore, aspirants must accordingly allocate time to prepare for these topics.

3. LEARNING TO APPLY CONCEPTS:

Merely studying concepts will not help in clearing the GATE exam. Aspirants need to master the application of these concepts. As the exam consists of more numerical questions than theoretical, it is important for aspirants to attempt as many numerical-based questions as it will help them strengthen their conceptual understanding.

4. PRACTICE USING THE VIRTUAL CALCULATOR:

One of the most effective tips to prepare for the GATE exam is to understand how to use the Virtual Calculator provided for the candidates on the day of the exam. By understanding how to operate the Virtual Calculator beforehand, aspirants can avoid additional stress and time wastage during the exam.

5. REGULAR REVISION:

Revision plays an important role in the preparation of any exam as it helps aspirants to identify their strengths and areas of improvement. An ideal practice cycle is to study a topic and then revise it after 7 days.

The next revision can be done after 15 days and then again after 30 days. Following the cyclic pattern of revision will help aspirants to retain information better and help them perform better.

While it is crucial that aspirants focus well on their studies, it's equally essential that they take good care of their mental and physical health. Therefore, it's important to ensure that one is eating healthily, getting enough sleep and takes regular breaks in between their study sessions. One can also indulge in some hobby to refresh themselves during such breaks to maintain their concentration levels.
