COMPETITIVE EXAMS IN INDIA - GENERAL INFORMATION
The UPSC Civil Services Examination
(CSE) is a nationwide competitive examination in India
conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to higher
Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative
Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service. Also simply referred
to as the UPSC examination, it is conducted in three phases: a preliminary
examination consisting of two objective-type papers (General Studies Paper I
and General Studies Paper II also popularly known as Civil Service Aptitude
Test or CSAT), and a main examination consisting of nine papers of conventional
(essay) type, in which two papers are qualifying and only marks of seven are
counted followed by a personality test (interview). A successful candidate sits
for 32 hours of examination during the complete process spanning around one
year.
Those
who clear all the three stages of the IAS exam enter into the prestigious civil
services of the country, and become officers in the Indian Administrative
Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and a
host of other services. Although regarded as one of the toughest exams in the
country, with the right approach and strategy, an aspirant can crack the IAS

TNPSC Group 1 Exam is
a recruitment exam conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission

should also know that TNPSC has made it mandatory for the candidates to furnish
their Aadhaar number at the time of applying for the Commission’s exams.
Fingerprints of the candidates will be verified with the biometric data
available with Aadhaar and only then will they be allowed to sit for exams in
the future. Also, candidates have to submit their school and graduation
certificates to prove that they have learnt the Tamil Language.
The GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in
Engineering) is an examination conducted in India that
primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate
subjects in engineering and science for admission into the Masters Program and
Job in Public Sector Companies. GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian
Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technologies at Roorkee,
Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai (Madras) and Mumbai (Bombay) on
behalf of the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher
Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.
The
GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a
candidate. The score is used for admissions to various post-graduate education
programs (e.g. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Master of
Architecture, Doctor of Philosophy) in Indian higher education institutes, with
financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies. Recently,
GATE scores are also being used by several Indian public sector undertakings
for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions. It is one of the
most competitive examinations in India. GATE is also recognized by various
institutes outside India, such as Nanyang Technological University in
Singapore.
GATE
(Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is one of the most reputed examinations

Education. The purpose of the GATE exam is to test students’ knowledge in

Petroleum, etc.
