Cell phone in India

Cell phone service began in India in 1995. Today, 14 years has been. On 22.08.1995, when the first cell phone service was started, first and first that day West Bengal chief minister Jodhi Bashu, was phone called by central minister Sukram from Delhi. They are the first people in India, who spoke in cell phone. The price of the mobile phone, they used on that day was approximately Rs.50,000. Rs.17/min was charged for outgoing calls from one mobile to another. For incoming calls, it was Rs.8/min. Apart from this, Rs.600 had to be paid for renting month. Cellphone was a dream one for poor and middle class people. But in 2009, this position has changed entirely changed reversely. By the various mobile companies’ competition, cell phone sold for Rs.50,000 has come up to Rs.1200. Outgoing call, which was Rs.17/min has come like 10 paise and 50 paise/min.

Cell phone service providing technology is classified into two types,

1.     GSM (Global System for Mobile)

2.     CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access)

According to Tamilnadu, in GSM technology 4 companies Aircel, Airtel, BSNL, Vodafone and in CDMA technology, 3 companies Reliance, Tata Indicom, Virgin mobile have  been functioning. Success of cell phone is the amendment of  “Income sharing scheme” in 1999. By this scheme, profit from commerce will be shared by cell phone service providers  and government. Another reason for cell phone success is the introduction of CDMA products in India. These two reasons , changed the growth of mobile into success. Today, information exchange feature called ‘SMS’ is sent more than 500 crores in number.
